Bunbury 'banned' from playing the Wiggles to homeless

Bunbury, south of Perth in Western Australia, played the Wiggles' song Hot Potato on repeat to repel people sleeping or loitering in the Graham Bricknell Memorial Music Shell.

The band has condemned the town's methods saying "the Wiggles' music is created to bring joy and happiness to children and families around the world".

"We are deeply disappointed to hear that it is being used in any other way."

This is not the first time Bunbury has received criticism over the unusual tactic.

In 2017 Peter Allen's I Go To Rio was played on repeat in the same shelter but the practice was suspended after it came under fire.

Bunbury Mayor Jaysen Miguel said the Wiggles music "has been played at the shell for more than six months without incident".

"However, it came to our attention that someone had removed a padlock into the storage area of the shell and turned the volume of the music right up."

Councillor Miguel said the city rectified the volume and turned the music down "to an acceptable level".

Since the Wiggles expressed their dissatisfaction the City of Bunbury has agreed to stop the music and review the practice.
