TERANG Tornadoes’ job is only half done. The Tornadoes used the off-season to ensure back-to-back Country Basketball League campaigns would come to fruition. Their aim now their place in the eight-team south-west men’s conference is assured is to push for a finals spot.  Terang co-coach Scott Judd said the Tornadoes, who withdrew their team from the 2012-13 competition before returning last season, had worked diligently to ensure the town was represented in the growing CBL. “For our town to produce a men’s association CBL squad is a huge accomplishment because we are a small population and to do it is hard,” Judd said. “Our team is run by Michael Payne, one of our players, and he is 22. “Him and myself have tried to do everything to get the team going in terms of sponsorship and catering. We don’t have a committee. It’s quite an achievement to get it up and running.” Judd, 21, has stepped into a leadership role this season. The creative point guard will work alongside sweet-shooting Big V talent Justin Wallace, who is coming off one of his most productive seasons with the Warrnambool Seahawks. “We have had three or four guys go out of the team from last year,” Judd said. “We’ve lost a lot of height so we are smaller and have to look to juniors. “We’re looking to do a similar thing to what Warrnambool Seahawks did with their (Big V) side and play an under 18 player in our home games. “We have a couple of Warrnambool guys in Pat Keane and Mark Scrubb coming into the side too.” Terang starts its campaign with an away double-header against reigning champion Mount Gambier Lakers and Portland Coasters. The Tornadoes will be without tall timber Wallace and Sam Spencer for the opening weekend. “We are going to be really small,” Judd said. “It will be a challenge against Mount Gambier but we’re hoping to squeeze a win against Portland.”  The CBL season tips off on October 11.
