Local students at St Mary's have received funding from the Stronger Country Communities Program, which will be used to create the short film project.

St Mary's Catholic School secondary coordinator Maureen Milgate said the funding will allow the students to create a high-quality film project.

"We are very excited to be successful in obtaining a grant and will be undertaking a community short-film making project later this year that will provide opportunities for students to research, script and re-enact historical events that are significant to Wellington's development and identity," she explained.

The secondary coordinator said the project will also give the students the chance to work with professionals within the community, which is a great opportunity.

"This valuable project will allow young people to develop a deeper understanding of local history and will foster an understanding and excitement around visual media and drama-focused productions," the St Mary's secondary coordinator added.

Member for the Dubbo electorate Dugald Saunders announced $105,325 from the program had been allocated to the school for the purposes of providing an additional educational program that will focus on the town's history.

"A real focus was made this year on projects that were aimed at youth in electorates all across NSW," Mr Saunders.

The Dubbo MP said he was delighted that Wellington's St Mary's Catholic School has been successful in receiving funding.

"Because their short film project is aimed towards children and teaching them what makes their town the wonderful place it is," Mr Saunders explained.
