Mumbil Central School P&C had been successful in receiving a grant of $60,000 to level the current oval and install synthetic turf.
The grant was made possible from the NSW Government's Community Building Partnerships program Dubbo MP Dugald Saunders made the announcement last week.
"The installation of a synthetic surface means that the oval will be able to be played on by students all year round," Mr Saunders said.
"Unfortunately, the field at Mumbil Public School had suffered through the drought, and when the rains came the surface has improved but in the event of a big downpour it becomes slippery and unsafe.
P&C vice-president Shannan Hanney said the project will be welcomed in the small community.
"We are extremely delighted to be successful in receiving funds for the much-needed project of upgrading our play space for the students...," she said.
"The children and community will benefit from this project by providing a multipurpose sporting facility all year round. We hope to get the project underway before the end of the financial year."
Applications for the 2020 Community Building Partnerships program will open in May, and more information can be obtained by visiting www.nsw.gov.au/cbp
