The meeting, targeted for Monday, January 13, will shift to Dubbo in a reversal of events that transpired late last year, when the Dubbo club lost a race meeting due to extreme heat and dangerously low air quality and the event was instead held at Wellington's Race Course.

That change was made at the eleventh hour, with horses and trainers having only a short amount of time to make the switch, while the upcoming switch from Wellington to Dubbo has not yet fielded any nominations or acceptances.

Wellington Race Club president Ian Darney said the call had been made by Racing NSW stewards following an inspection of the grounds.

"The stewards noticed a couple of bare patches on the track that aren't as good as what they should be," Darney said.

"With the lack of water at the moment, in the middle of the drought, we just haven't got as much water as we were hoping to get."

"We're chucking water on it, but at the end of the day, that's just how it is, it's not my decision."

While Darney said the decision was 'disappointing' for the club, he affirmed that the club was still committed to providing the best possible grounds for future events.

"We'll look forward to the Boot and we'll have the track in top condition by then, it's just a few patches that weren't up to standard, so we'll move onto the next chapter," Darney said.
