Forty teams from across the region took part in more than 100 games over November 15-17. There were four Wellington Eagles teams in the 42nd annual competition, with three C grade teams and one A grade.
The A Grade men's team made it to the grand final against Bears Boys but narrowly lost by 10 points.
Wellington Point Guard, 14-year-old, Anthony Mundine Junior was named the Tournament's MVP for the A Grade men.
The Youth C Grade men's team had four from five wins, with coach Corey Sutherland saying they were very unlucky to not make it to the grand final.
Sutherland said he was more impressed with his side's behaviour at the carnival.
"Because I know they can play," he said. "Their behaviour was outstanding."
ALSO MAKING NEWS:
It was Wellington's third consecutive year taking part in Carnival.
Sutherland said when they first started competing in the competition they were getting beaten by 60 points, so was proud to see just how far they've come in such a short amount of time.
"(We) Were not even getting a look in at any semis and now we're making the grand final," he said.
Sutherland has a youth basketball program in Wellington with training sessions held every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon at the Rygate basketball courts.
Those participating in the program also travel to Dubbo to play basketball each week in the men's competition at Dubbo Sportsworld, with the C grade team winning their grand final.
"That was a good win for the young guys, they just keep getting better and better," Sutherland said.
He thanked their sponsors Joblink Plus Wellington, WACHS, the Wellington Housing Co-Op, Help Em Shearing, Three Rivers Regional Assembly and the Wellington PCYC.
Suther also gave a special mention to their supporters including Elders Lynnette Mundine, Ursula Semmler, Joan Sutherland, Barry SMith and Becky Carr for travelling to Gilgandra to watch them in the Carnival.
