The premier on Tuesday faced the threat of a leadership spill motion from rebel MPs Tanya Davies, Lou Amato and Matthew Mason-Cox over her handling of a private members' bill to change the laws around abortion in the state.

However, the trio called off their attack after receiving "confirmation that further concessions will be forthcoming in relation to the amendments to the abortion bill".

Opponents of the bill have raised concerns about late-term abortions, gender-based terminations and the way the bill was introduced.

The bill's proposed amendments were debated in the NSW Upper House late into the night on Tuesday.

Tuesday also saw the Premier face a grilling from Labor after NSW Sports Minister John Sidoti stepped aside from cabinet.

The move came in the wake of the Independent Commission Against Corruption announcing it was investigating allegations of misconduct against Mr Sidoti.

Controversy erupted around the embattled MP last week over his property interests, their proximity to future metro stations and a linked political donation made by a developer to the NSW Liberal Party.

He was referred to ICAC by NSW Labor in the aftermath of a tense budget estimates hearing where he was repeated - more than 100 times - that he had always complied with his obligations as an MP.

Mr Sidoti's offered to stand aside while ICAC conducted its preliminary investigation into the allegations but continued to deny any wrongdoing.

Tensions erupted over the issue during question time, with the premier stressing Mr Sidoti's case was now "a matter for ICAC" before pointing the finger back at Labor's own issues with declaring property interests.
