Anyone who has driven from Wellington towards Dubbo in the last fortnight would have noticed a big change as they headed out of town. The unsightly mound with scrub and long grass has received a significant clean-up and is now looking much better.

After a notice of motion from Councillor Greg Mohr for the creation of a masterplan to beautify the Wellington CBD and its entrances, this is the first step. Councillor Mohr and I went out to see the work while it was in progress and we were very pleased. What had been an eyesore is looking much better.
This was something that the community has been calling for. Wellington is such a fantastic town and residents have a lot of pride but there are some areas that need improvement and your Council is working to correct those. There are so many positive things happening in Wellington and the good news will continue to come.
In the coming months the Visitors Information Centre will move into the Wellington Customer Service Centre on the corner of Nanima Crescent and Warne Street. This will allow for an exciting revamp and is a natural fit for such an important service. This will also allow for the Wiradjuri Tourism Experience to go into the building in Cameron Park that will be vacated by the Information Centre. This new attraction for Wellington will allow locals and tourists to interact with one of the oldest cultures in the world, learn about local Aboriginal traditions and gain an understanding and appreciation for the beliefs of the Wiradjuri people.
One of Wellington's leading attractions is the magnificent Wellington Caves and Council is continuing to work on the exciting Visitor Information Centre out there. The centre includes a new welcome precinct, a new café, a discovery lab including scientific education classroom and a fossil store. Construction is progressing and it is due to be completed by the end of the year. This is another example of great work to improve an existing attraction.
And of course one of the biggest pieces of infrastructure for Wellington is the redevelopment of the Wellington Aquatic Leisure Centre. This $8.25 million project includes the eight-lane pool with disabled access, a heated exercise and learn to swim pool, splash pad and expanded amenities. It is on track to be completed by November and I am really excited for the community to be able to see it.
This is an unprecedented time for Wellington with more than $40 million worth of projects underway or due to start and they will continue to boost the appeal of this wonderful, vibrant town.
