Co-captain Jonas (calf) has missed the past four games and Gray (broken hand) the last three, with the pair to face fitness tests later this week.

The eighth-placed Power meet Hawthorn in Tasmania on Saturday followed by clashes against St Kilda in China, a bye, then a trip to Perth to play Fremantle.

Key defender Jonas trained last Saturday as he attempts to shake a nagging strain.

"I would think that he will get a full week of training in and put his name up (for selection)," assistant coach Jarrad Schofield told reporters on Monday.

Schofield said triple club champion Gray would also be "thereabouts" to return against the Hawks and the start of Port's defining away stretch.

"You like to be at home," Schofield said.

"But I also think there's a real upside to travelling with your mates.

"As much as we're missing our families and want to be in in the comfort zone of our own home ... it's a real good opportunity to really connect at a real crucial time of the season, the midpoint of the season."

Schofield noted the away games were all against clubs around the Power on the ladder.

Port have won five games and lost four this season, with Hawthorn, the Saints and Fremantle all currently with four wins and five losses.

"We are playing teams that are around the mark of where we are right now so I think it's going to be a great opportunity," Schofield said.

"Its a real positive thing because the more (time) we can spend with each other at this time of the year, I think it's even better."
