Luckily, here in the Dubbo region we are blessed with plenty of great things to do and see. Regardless of whether you are looking for something to do indoors or out.
From programs at your local library branch, to great entertainment hotspots such as the Wellington Caves and the Burrendong Arboretum, there really is something for everyone.
The Wellington branch of the Macquarie Regional Library has activities relating to the Treehouse book series by Andy Griffiths and Terry Denton.
It will host Treehouse Games on Thursday, 18 April between 2pm and 4pm, and Treehouse Signs on Wednesday, 24 April between 2pm and 4pm.
It is also a great place to borrow books, DVDs, audiobooks and more that can be enjoyed at home, as well as providing free internet access.
Drop in or visit the library's website www.mrl.nsw.gov.au for more information, and remember it is free to join the library.
One of the most incredible attractions in the entire region is the Wellington Caves. It is a real blessing to have such an incredible geological wonder in our backyard but despite that, so many locals have never visited.
I would encourage everyone to go along and see the majesty of the Cathedral and Gaden Caves, as well as the Phosphate Mine. The tours of each one take about an hour and the Caves do have steps that are unsuitable for strollers or wheelchairs but the Phosphate Mine is accessible for everyone.
Visit wellingtoncaves.com.au for tour times and prices or for more information.
Another hidden gem in the region is the Burrendong Botanic Garden and Arboretum. It is located just 28 kilometres from Wellington on Tara Road, adjacent to Lake Burrendong.
I really can't stress how amazing this place is, with more than 50,000 flowering plants and trees including numerous rare and endangered ones. One of the highlights is Fern Gully, a concentrated rainforest area with a huge collection of Australian ferns but there is so much to see. There are roads for those who would prefer to drive or plenty of walking trails and picnic spots. I think everyone should go there at least once. The Arboretum is open daily between 8am and 6pm. There are also plenty of other options around town. I know the Wellington PCYC has a range of sports and programs such as gymnastics, that kids can take part in and are a great option to break the boredom.
If you are taking a trip into Dubbo, don't forget the great new adventure playground, part of the Dubbo Regional Botanic Garden at Elizabeth Park. The Dubbo branch of the Macquarie Regional Library also offers an array of school holiday activities that can be viewed by visiting the Library's website or Facebook page.
