Western’s All Star cast needs your vote to take on Maori line-up

It’s terribly unlikely, though, we'll ever see these NRL guns in the one Western side. 

But there is a chance we will watch this octadic of Rams products turn out for the Indigenous All Stars side to take on the Maori All Stars at Melbourne’s AAMI Park.

All they need is your vote.

Wighton (Orange), Watson (Dubbo), Ramien and Burns (both Coonamble), Thompson (Forbes) and the Wellington trio of Ferguson, Staggs and Peachey are all in contention to play in the pre-season exhibition on February 15.

Voting opened for the return of the All Stars clash this week. The last All Stars match was in 2017, with the NRL deciding not to stage the concept in 2018.

This year’s game is the first time the Maori All Stars will take the field.

Wighton is a seasoned All Stars representative, having played in 2017, 2016, 2015 and 2013 games while ex-Red Bend star Thompson has represented the Indigenous side six times – a record for any NRL player.

Peachey and Ferguson have both played three times.

Watson, Ramien, Burns and Staggs are in contention to make their debuts, the later only cracking the NRL with the Broncos last season as a 19-year-old.

Voting closes on January 30, with the fans' teams to be announced the following day. Official team announcements will be made on February 1.

Helping kick-off a new era for the All Stars game, a women’s spectacle is also on the cards at Melbourne. 

Kandy Kennedy (Bathurst), Majayda Darcy (Dubbo) and Rebecca Ford (Orange) have been named in the women’s Indigenous All Stars squad.
