Cumnock resident Charlie Salt said the installation, which happened in November, 2017, was done by Eurosolar, and judged to be “substandard” by the Clean Energy Regulator during an inspection. 

According to a report issued by the Clean Energy Regulator, issues with the installation include the panel-mounting structure not being deemed secure and the PV array frame not complying with standard requirements.

A report prepared for Mr Salt by the regulator found “the installation work or equipment should be improved”. 

“The system does not meet key clauses in the standards and requirements for installation and may lead to premature equipment failure or other issues,” the report said. 

“The relevant state or territory authority has been advised by the inspector of the nature and extent of the identified issues.”

The report said Mr Salt should contact the installer – in this case Eurosolar – but he said he had been “brushed off” by the company. 

He said he had tried for six months to have someone repair the panels, and after initially thinking it was “an honest mistake” that could be easily fixed, he’s now convinced the company has been ignoring his requests. 

Mr Salt said Eurosolar employees repeatedly told him there was nothing to worry about, and directed him back to both the Clean Energy Regulator and the Clean Energy Council.

Eurosolar didn’t respond to requests by the Central Western Daily for comment. 

A spokesperson for the Clean Energy Regulator said the organisation had a “statutory responsibility” to inspect systems but had “no powers in relation to electrical safety and consumer protection”. 

“Clean Energy Regulator Inspection Reports are provided to the homeowner, the installer, relevant State/Territory electrical safety regulators, and the Clean Energy Council (CEC) for appropriate action,” the spokesperson said.
