The library has a collection of books devoted to those who are caregivers to family and friends. Carers are usually family members who provide support to children or adults who have a disability, mental illness, chronic condition or who are frail aged.
There are books, DVDs and sound recordings that provide information to carers of all ages. According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics there are 272,000 carers under the age of 18 and there are books specifically aimed at young people who act as carers for other members of the family.
In addition there are books that detail how to get support from government agencies and other organisations. Items in the Carers Collection are available for loan.
