A group of children, along with two of their mothers and teacher Nicky Janetzki, travelled in early to Dubbo from Wellington in order to reserve front row seats in the packed park.
In total, 39 of Wellington Christian School’s children were packed on to a schoolbus before making the 50km trip and taking up their places by the barricades in Victoria park.
Those in attendance braved the pouring rain and thundering storm conditions in order to hear Prince Harry’s speech.
“It was good, he was very down to earth and he said all the right things,” Mrs Janetzki said.
“For anyone who was old enough, the older kids – we’ll probably play it to them again – it’s good for kids now, especially younger kids to hear about resilience but also making yourself vulnerable enough to ask for help if you need it. It was a good balance of saying ‘you guys rock, but don’t think you have to do it on your own’.”
