It’s not that often that regional towns are given the opportunity to host a global event so that is why I am so pleased Wellington is the destination for Red Bull Branched Out 2018.

More than 100 of the world’s best tree climbers have signed up to take part in the competition, which starts on Thursday and runs through to Saturday.
Pioneer Park will play host to this incredible event and it will also coincide with SpringFest at Cameron Park on Friday and Saturday.
While Branched Out is only in its second year, it has already developed a following and it looks set to grow from last year's debut at Balranald. It is the richest tree climbing competition in the world, in both prize money and equipment, which is why it attracts people from so far away.
For those who aren't aware what Branched Out is, "the unique skill-based format challenges tree climbers to hit several targets in the 40-metre high tree canopy, starting at the top and swinging from fixed ropes descending down to the ground", the event website says.
Incredibly, last year’s winner was able to do all that in just two minutes and 57 seconds. One male and one female winner will be crowned 2018 Red Bull Branched Out Champions. And those hoping to claim those titles are coming from all over the world including the UK, the USA and mainland Europe, as well as plenty of Australian climbers who want to test themselves.
So between Thursday and Saturday, I would encourage everyone to take the opportunity to come out and see something new and different, and support this fantastic event that has chosen to support Wellington.
And don’t forget SpringFest, which includes fantastic activities such as the markets on Saturday and the Quota Charity Art Exhibition on the Friday night. For more information on either event visit www.redbull.com.au/BranchedOut or www.wellingtonspringfest.com.au.
