In the Wildcat game the girls played brilliantly and were right in the contest until the end, however, they wound up losing 4-2. Which was an unfortunate way to end the season for this group of awesome girls.
The Cow and Calf player of the match was Penny Clout.
The Warriors game started off at a hectic pace with some solid end to end football as both teams pressed to gain the early ascendancy. However, it was SDW who blinked first as Sara Darney came to life when it mattered most to produce a master class to tear her opponents apart.
Over the next 15 minutes the Warriors produced some excellent team football which Sara was aptly able finish off to claim a 1st half hat trick before the 30 minute mark.
Today was one of those days in which the Wellington girls really clicked as a unit, and as such they added a further two goals to their total before the break as Gabby Magee scored her first goal for the club after chipping the goalie and then Jacqui Ryan was able to slot the 5th past the keeper after some more excellent lead up play by Wellington.
After the break Wellington continued to assert its dominance on the game as it created numerous chances in the first few minutes of the half but were just unable to finish as both the post, desperate SDW defence and the offside rule kept the Warriors out.
However, once Sara got her fourth of the game the flood gates once more opened, as first Sara and then Jacqui, again completed some excellent lead up play by the Warriors, to extend the lead to 8.
With 15 to go, Gabby Magee wound back the years as she picked up the ball on the half way, glided past four defenders before calmly slotting one past the keeper. However, the biggest cheer was to come as Wellington’s Kahla Chown raided down the right flank, the cross came into Jacqui who chipped the SDW defence straight to Gabbi Birbiles who slammed home her first ever goal and boy didn’t she enjoy it.
In the end the Warriors ran out much deserved 10-0 winners. The girls played brilliantly from defence to their strikers and deserved their excellent win.
This week’s Cow and Calf player of the week was Sara Darney for her 5 goal effort.
