The Wellington Bowling Club was the highlight for the Murray family reunion recently, when three generations descended on Wellington for the event.

The club’s most recent honour board was designed and fabricated by 84-year-old John Murray, a former Wellington local, in 1954.
His late father Frank Murray and late-uncle James Murray, also former Wellington locals, designed and fabricated the earlier honour board around 1905.
Both plaques are still displayed at the club.
John, who at the time had recently completed his cabinetmaking apprenticeship, fashioned the board out of pacific maple timber and used traditional joinery methods without any nails or glue.
He only ever made the one plaque, which was modelled on the original.
John said the Murray family had been heavily involved in the club for many years and held various positions on the committee and at one stage managed the building.
“I’m proud to have been a part of the club and to have contributed to its history,” he said.
