- Orana Mid-Western Police District Inspector Daniel Skelly
At about 11pm on Monday night, police were called to the West Dubbo address after the 73-year-old woman fled from her home.
A man had entered her home, punching and pushing the woman, demanding money. She managed to escape and run out of her house. The male left the house empty handed and was last seen running towards East Street.
The woman sustained bruising and swelling to her face as well as a split lip. She was taken to Dubbo Base Hospital for treatment and observation.
“Understandably, the lady, apart from being badly assaulted, was also in a state of shock and did not manage to get a good description of her attacker,” Orana Mid-Western Police Inspector Daniel Skelly said.
“Police believe that the man was of Aboriginal appearance, in his 20's, and bald, or has a shaven head.
"This is a shocking example of an intrusion of a person's home by a lowlife thug, who most likely is not capable of much more then committing unprovoked assaults on elderly people in an attempt to steal from them. Our crime scene people attended and have taken a number of items for DNA analysis.
“We want this bloke, and someone out there knows him. I ask that person to do the right thing and let us know where he is so we can deal with him before he has a chance to do it to another elderly person,” Inspector Skelly said.
