In the 12 months to March, the rate of break and enters across the Dubbo local government area (LGA) per 100,000 people was 3.2 times higher than the state average, according to the Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research (BOCSAR). There were 582 incidents reported to police.

BOCSAR statistics are available for an LGA, but can’t be broken down further, meaning Wellington is grouped with Dubbo.

Break and enters to non-dwellings, motor vehicle theft and steal from motor vehicle in the local government area were all more than twice the average. 

Of the three, the highest number of incidents was steal from motor vehicle at 615. There were 197 motor vehicle thefts and 142 break and enters to non-dwellings.

Six regional areas had an increase in assault, including Orana/Far West where it rose by 8.2 per cent, and the Central West where it increased by 7.1 per cent.

Domestic violence related assault in Dubbo still remains twice has high than the average, with 387 incidents reported during the 12 months. Sexual assault is also double the NSW average, while indecent assault or acts of indecency are 2.4 times as high.

However, looking at the two year statistics from BOCSAR, there has been a decrease across a number of Dubbo’s worse categories.

In the 24 months to March, the number of reported break and enters to dwellings dropped by 39.3 per cent.

Steal from motor vehicles has reduced by more than a third, while motor vehicle theft has gone down by 30 per cent. There was also a 30 per cent recorded drop in steal from dwelling.

In the two years to March, 15 of the major crime categories either remained stable or were down across NSW. The number of sexual assaults and other sexual offences reported both increased.
