Man found with contraband in underpants during jail visit
A man found with contraband stashed down his underpants while visiting a family member at the Wellington Correctional Centre fronted court on the charge this month.

Stephen Gerard Buttons, 55, of William Street, appeared in Wellington Local Court on April 17 on one charge of unlawfully bring anything into place of detention.
He was found guilty of the offence and placed on a six-month Section 9 bond.
Police facts state the accused attended the Wellington Correctional Centre at 10am on Sunday, February 25, 2018 where he was observed by Correctional Officers passing an item to the inmate he was visiting.
The inmate immediately passed the item back and the accused stuffed it down the front of his pants.
Correctional Officers conducted a search of the accused who denied being in possession of any contraband. Police conducted a strip search of the accused during which they found a ball containing 25 grams of tobacco and a packet of Tallyho papers in his underwear.
The tobacco was wrapped in three plastic condoms, the external layer found to contain various spices which police believe was in effort to disguise the scent from drug detection dogs.
The contraband was seized.
Green thumb lands Mumbil man in hot water
A Mumbil man found with a small garden containing cannabis plans was fined in his absence at Wellington Local Court this month.
Andrew John Devine, 47, of Railway Street, Mumbil entered a written plea of guilty to possess prohibited drug, and cultivate prohibited plant of small quantity.
He was fined $200 in his absence.
Facts tendered to the court state that police attended the Mumbil residence at 2.40pm on Friday, March 30, 2018 after receiving information cannabis was being grown at the location.
The accused admitted to police there was cannabis on the property, a brief search revealing a small garden covered in shade cloth containing six plants at approximately 50cm tall.
The accused made full admissions to growing the plants, stating the cannabis was for his own personal use.
Father pleads guilty to assaulting daughter
A 45-year-old Wellington man who punched his daughter numerous times to the head pleaded guilty to common assault in Wellington Local Court this month.
Brett Orcher of Walker Crescent, Wellington was placed on a Section 9 bond for a term of three years.
Police facts state that at 6.30pm on Monday, March 26 the accused was seated in the loungeroom area of the Walker Crescent residence where he was speaking to a number of children in a derogatory manner regarding the victim.
The victim responded to a remark made by the accused, who proceeded to approach the victim in the kitchen with a closed fist and punched her numerous times to the head, ribs and back resulting in her falling to the floor. Police were contacted and the accused left the location, later attending the Wellington Police Station where he was arrested for domestic assault.
Hospital trip ends in court
Joanne Fay Stanley was placed on a six month bond in Wellington Local Court in March after being caught driving during disqualification period.
The 55-year-old of Pierce Street, Wellington pleaded guilty to the charge and was placed on a S10(1) (b) bond.
Facts state the accused was stopped for the purpose of a random breath test on Ford Street at 9.45am on January 14.
Stanley admitted to not holding a driver’s license, telling police she had only driven to the hospital to undergo methadone treatment.
