Popular fair draws crowd | PHOTOS

Although temperatures peaked in the mid-30s on both days it was no deterrent for antiques fanatics who travelled from around the region to attend the event.

The weekend was kicked off with the popular street parade on Saturday which was the best one yet, according to feedback received by Vintage Fair committee chairman Jamie Gersbach.

“People have been telling us it was one of the best parades in years,” he said.

“Both steam engines were going, lots of people turned up, there was a good showing of cars, and the town band played.” 

Numbers at Sunday’s swap meet were about on par with recent years with gate takings indicating around 2700 people attended.

Jamie said car, truck and engine entries were up on previous years, with an increase of entrants notably from the Bathurst and Forbes areas.

“It’s good to get people from out of town, we had a big contingent from Forbes come over with stationary engines which is the first visit from them,” Jamie said.

“People from Forbes were new, people with the trucks from Bathurst were new, and we got a better showing of local cars this year which was really good.”

The local support didn’t stop at displays, with several community groups pitching in to make the weekend the success it was. Jamie noted the gallant effort by members of Wellington High School who went above and beyond both days.

Jamie praised the efforts of all involved, adding that all profits from this year’s event will go to Wellington High School.

“We had the Wellington Showgirl there all day, plus Wellington Amateur Theatre Society production people all in period costume, John Kitchen with his old pushbikes, the PCYC with arrow tag, Lions, Golf Club and Red Cross ladies did food, SES, Rural Fire Service and Scouts...” Jamie said.

“We also had a really good presence and help from the Wellington High School who manned all the gates, they did fantastic.

“That was pretty good for Wellington to have the talent to do that.”
