The team at Woolworths in Wellington have taken it upon themselves to host a toy drive to assist local families this month.
Store manager, Graham McKenzie, is calling on the community to join the supermarket in donating toys to the drive.
“It’s a great way of giving back to the community and people in need this time of year, “Graham said. “It’s a great initiative to get people involved and share the Christmas spirit. We are going to donate some toys as well to get the ball rolling.”
Those wishing to donate a gift can place it under the Christmas tree in the store. Wrapping is optional, however labeling the present age and gender appropriately is advised.
Toys will be donated to local charities – St Vincent de Paul and the Salvation Army – in the week ahead of Christmas day who will then distribute the presents to families in need.
Coles has also jumped on board with festivities, giving shoppers in Wellington the opportunity to help families affected by cancer during the Christmas period.
Coles launched the national campaign to raise funds for Redkite to help provide financial and emotional support to children and young people with cancer. Shoppers can purchase a $2 Redkite donation card at Coles – with 100 per cent of proceeds going to Redkite.
