Wellington’s Marie Hoffman and Pip Smith, and Roslyn Press of Geurie, were among the 103 women to feature on this year’s honour roll – an annual initiative of the NSW Department of Primary Industries’ Rural Women’s Network.
Marie was nominated based on a lifetime of commitment to the community.
“She has sat on committees for public buildings extensions, railway gardens, Council Access Committee, Careers Expo at the High School, Wellington Tourist Office, early editions of Wellington Diary, coordinating the Olympic Torch Relay, and large social events,” the nomination read.
She has also volunteered for Tele Aid, the Oxley Museum, and at schools, sporting and scouting groups to name a few.
Pip was also recognised for donating her spare time to the betterment of the community. When she isn’t running a successful merino enterprise with her husband, Norm, Pip is still hard at work.
This year alone the mother-of-five has volunteered for the Information and Neighbourhood Service, the Amateur Swimming Club, eisteddfod committee, Local Advisory Committee, CWA, Hospital Health Board, Bodangora Wind Farm community advisory committee, and Meals on Wheels. She has also had a stint with the Wellington Pre-School, Primary School P&C, Early Childhood Community Representative, Domestic Violence Collective and local councillor.
“Pip is progressive, forward thinking and a very positive role model for her children,” the nomination read.
“She has been the backbone of the swimming club, and is a most worthy Hidden Treasure.”
Roslyn Press of Geurie was nominated for her willingness to lend a hand. She has been treasurer for the Dubbo Show Society since 2008.
“Ros is always in the office, looking after the books for Geurie and Rockley, and is always available to provide invaluable advice to associated events in the surrounding districts,” the nomination read.
“Ros really is a Hidden Treasure and deserves every accolade.”
Ros said she is honoured to be named on the honour roll.
“I’m definitely humbled but I love my voluntary work,” she said. “I’m involved in these things because I like to see people attend and forget about any troubles they have, whether it be at a show or rodeo.
“The other thing I like to do is raise money for not for profit organisations.”
