Local martial arts instructor, Ron Goninan, has clocked up 45 years in the sport and was recently recognised in China as the “Father of Australian White Crane Gongfu”.
Goninan’s achievements continued when he was recognised in China by Jinfeng Fujian Yongchun White Crane Research Institute and Master Zheng YiJun as being the only Western Ninth Degree White Crane Master with a direct lineage traceable back to the founder of White Crane.
Goninan said he is the only White Crane Teacher in Australia who has the full recognition and backing of several Masters of the art in China and Taiwan.
He added that he is also the highest ranked White Crane teacher outside of China and Taiwan.
He was also awarded the honour of being the only Westerner to be given the Red Crowned Crane Master Form by Calling Crane Master, Lin Yuan Dun!

Master Lin was a student of the late Grandmaster Ruan Dong.
In addition he was awarded the “Wubeizhi” Passed All Licence” and text by Calling Crane Master Dong Laoshi of Fuzhou, China.
Add to this, Master Instructor / Accredited Master Coach recognition by the largest peak industry body for the warrior arts, the Martial Arts Australia / International Martial Arts Alliance.
The Master Coach recognition is the equivalent at least Certificate IV + qualification.
As an instructor, Goninan is accredited via the Australian Martial Arts Coaching Scheme.
A highly passionate advocate for real and true martial arts training, Goninan has trained overseas in the birthplace of his martial arts and is keen to see what he believes is a very special art and culture continue by placing it in the hands of future generations.
“My Masters gave me their hands, their arts so that I may pass it on to the truly dedicated of students,” Goninan said.
“I may not be the best but I am trying my best!
“I learn a lot from seeing my guys listening and learning with open minds and trust.
“I just love the arts which have given so much to me in my own life that I want to share it with others!”
