“Satisfying” was the first word that came to mind when Wellington Redbacks’ Dave Sturman described the team’s 29-17 win over Orange on Saturday.

And satisfying it was as the Redbacks broke a seven-round losing streak in front of a home crowd for the club’s annual ladies and sponsors day.
“It was a very fast and free flowing game of rugby from both teams, the loose, open game suited us,” Sturman said.
James Cusack was a standout player with a hat-trick to earn two points and player’s player. Steve McDonald had a cracking game at inside centre to earn three points, and Zac McManus got the one point.
Nick Poingdestre earned the “Chick’s Pick”.
Tries went to James Cusack (3), Nathan Simpson (1) and Matt Watson (1).
The match was followed by a Sydney Children’s Hospital Foundation fundraiser. Mitch Cusack, Matt Refern, Chris Kirstin and Morgan Kalsau volunteered to be waxed for the event which raised $1661.50.
“Nick Knowles was at the pub having a relaxing night and graciously accepted our offer to wax him and he alone raised us $500 for the charity, so that was a phenomenal effort and we’re very appreciative of him allowing us to wax him,” Sturnam said.
The Redbacks travel to Geurie this week to pit themselves against a top side.
“We’d like to muscle up upfront and slow their momentum down, and hopefully get into a position where we can play our style of rugby rather than them playing the game the way they want to,” Sturnam said.
