Dubbo Regional Council is holding ‘Seatbelt Saturday’ in the Autobarn car park from 9am to 12pm.

Council’s road safety officer Jayne Bleechmore said it was a great opportunity for parents and carers to check they were using a compliant Australian Standards approved child restraint appropriate for the child’s height.

“Equally important is how the restraint has been secured to the car seat. The road can be a dangerous environment and correctly fitted child restraints give little ones the best chance of surviving a crash,” Ms Bleechmore said.

Child restraints can also be installed and certified by two Roads and Maritime Services authorised local fitters who will not only check (or fit) restraints but answer any questions parents and carers might have.

“Many parents and carers want to ensure they are doing the right thing for their children and ‘Seatbelt Saturdays’ are one way council can help them update their knowledge and give them peace of mind,” Ms Bleechmore said.
