At Dubbo last Thursday 3,975 prime cattle penned in a mainly good selection though overall it was a plainer quality yarding with a large influence of far western cattle. Not all the regular buyers attended.

Trade vealers rose 12 to 15 cents while trade yearlings improved 3 cents.
Feeder steers gained 4 to 8 cents, while feeder heifers were firm to 5 cents dearer. Restocker young cattle were cheaper with steers reaching 414 cents, heifers topping at 370 cents per kg, heavy steers gained 2 to 4 cents, the lighter end of the heavy heifers were up 20 cents, topping at 333 cents. Cows were 4 to 8 cents dearer.
Quotations: calves 320 to 455, steer vealers 346 to 414, heifer vealers 308 to 370, steer yearlings 315 to 378, heifer yearlings 262 to 357, heavy steers 266 to 365, bullocks 260 to 335, heavy heifers 263 to 334, light cows 180, medium cows 210 to 255, heavy cows 180 to 255, bulls 245 to 338.
1,450 store cattle penned at Dubbo on Friday in a good quality yarding. Cows and calves were in limited supply and apart from the very best quality cattle the market remained flat. Steer weaners sold from $550 to $1,110 with an avg of $770 or 390 cents per kg, steer yearlings ranged from $770 to $1,420. Heifers weaners traded from $405 to $990 to avg $740 or 324 cents per kg.
A single pen of PTIC Angus heifers made $1,450. PTIC cows sold from $1,025 to $1,660, cows and calves ranged from $1,370 to $2,000.
At Monday at Dubbo 18,600 lambs penned in a mixed quality yarding with a good selection of trade lambs however only limited numbers of heavy weights. White Dorpers and light Merinos were well supplied.
Processor light lambs were firm, trade lambs were firm to $3 cheaper, heavy weights fell $9 to $11 due mainly to quality. Merino lambs lost $5 with trade weights ranging from $112 to $148. Restockers paid to $119, feeders to $127 and hoggets sold to $148.
Quotations: light lamb $70 to $120, medium lamb $120 to $148, heavy lamb $132 to $170, supermarket lamb $145 to $183, export lamb $182 to $214.
8,500 mutton penned in a fair to good quality yarding light and medium sheep rose $2 to $6, heavy weight crossbreds were firm, heavy weight Merinos lost up to $8.
Quotations: light ewes $58 to $126, medium ewes $92 to $146, heavy ewes $115 to $170, light wethers $95 to $108, medium wethers $95 to $138, heavy wethers $132 to $188, rams $19 to $119, ram lambs $49 to $144.
Schute Bell report that last week’s wool market again took a tumble, following the previous weeks’ sharp falls on the first day. However, the second day of sales resulted in a far more positive mood that appeared to gain traction as the day progressed leaving most Merino types on the positive side of the ledger. 38,488 bales were sold with a passed in rate of 16.5%. The positive finish for last week hopefully sets the scene for the Northern Regions sale this week that is taking placed at the Royal Easter Show on Tuesday and Wednesday. AWTA test data released this week for the season to date is showing a 4.6% increase in the weight of wool tested, however there was a 5% decrease in the volume of superfine wool tested. The Norther Region Indicator closed at 1,549 cents per kg clean, a fall of 38 cents.
