Cobbitty-based trainer Anne-Marie Ruttley will be chasing a long overdue feature race win with her promising four-year-old Steel Frost in Saturday’s $150,000 Country Championships *SERA Qualifier (1400m) at Goulburn.
Ruttley prepared Daniel’s the Man to major wins in the Wyong Cup and Sky High Stakes (Rosehill) during 2003-04 and will no doubt be keen to see Steel Frost run first or second in this weekend’s qualifier.
The first pair then head to Royal Randwick on Saturday 1 April to compete in the $400,000 Country Championships Final (1400m).
Steel Frost has only raced on five occasions, winning three successive races at Goulburn (1300m), Canberra (1400m) and Kembla Grange (1400m).
Ruttley then freshened up Steel Frost before the gelding finished a pleasing seventh to I Told Georgie in a TAB Highway race (1200m) at Randwick on 4 February.
That run should improve Steel Frost who will relish the step-up to 1400m on Saturday.
Steel Frost will again take on I Told Georgie, who is one of four entrants from local trainer Danny Williams who has also nominated Shutter Bug, Vee Eight and Pumpkin Pie. The latter is high in betting charts with TAB fixed odds offering $11 for the Final.
