A forecast temperature of more than 44 degrees has prompted the organisers of Bedgerabong’s biggest day of the year to postpone Saturday's event.

The annual Bedgerabong Picnic Race meeting was to kick off at 1.30pm this Saturday February 11, with a six-race program.
But with the forecast for searing heat, committee president Jimmy Rodgers said the sensible decision for both horses and racegoers was to call the day off.
He had been in discussions about moving the day’s races forward to a 10am start, but said even that didn’t offer any guarantees of a good day’s racing.
A vet would be on site and would determine if it was too hot for horses to run.
“They use an instrument that takes into account the temperature, humidity, wind and everything,” he said.
“It’s a lot of worry and concern. We’ve made the right decision.”
The picnic race organisers have now locked in Saturday April 29 for this year’s rescheduled picnic race meeting.
