PCYC Judo also has Caitlin Playford fighting in Japan at the Osaka International Tournament, representing the Australian Kodakan judo team.
Recently a group of nine competitors from the Wellington PCYC judo club attended the 2016 NSW Country Championships in Coffs Harbour.
The annual tournament is open to judo clubs outside the Sydney metropolitan area. Wellington’s participants ranged in age from 9 years to 50 and everyone came away with a great experience from the competition.
Judo is a contact sport and to win you must throw your competitor onto their back with power and speed, hold them down for twenty seconds or submit them with an arm bar or choke.
The country tournament has divisions catering for both novice and experienced players.
There were 200 entries for the tournament with Wellington PCYC coming away with a medal tally of four gold, four silver and a bronze medal.
All of the players got a great amount of fight time and enjoyed the weekend of judo immensely.
The club is already looking forward to next year’s country championships.
