A garden that impressed a judge as “peaceful, tranquil and meandering” has won the top honour in this year’s Rotary Club of Wellington and Wellington Times Garden Competition.

Ro and Michael Horton received the grand champion prize, after also taking out the country garden category and champion country garden.
Theirs was one of 20 entries, from Spicers Creek to Neurea to Geurie and in between.
Competition coordinator Greg Wykes said they were pleased with the number of entries.
“The judge was very impressed with the standard of gardens,” he said.
Mr Wykes made special mention of the residents of Maranatha who maintained the covered areas and 90-year-old Nola Hayes received a highly commended.
