What does this mean?

Cold temperatures, heavy rain and showers, and strong westerly winds are expected today and into the weekend.

Freshly shorn ewes, young lambs, heavily pregnant ewes and all livestock in light condition are most at risk.

What should I do?

Move at-risk stock to sheltered paddocks - ideally with a north-easterly aspect.

Provide adequate feed – if pasture is low, supply good quality hay to high risk mobs. For mobs of cows with calves at foot or pregnant cows, applying CausMag to hay can help reduce the risk of Grass Tetany.

Avoid shearing or animal husbandry – this can stress the animals and increase the chance of losses. Particularly avoid stressing pregnant ewes.

Avoid sudden changes to supplementary feeding - if grain feeding has been interrupted by wet weather, take steps to avoid a sudden large intake - grain should be reintroduced slowly to avoid grain poisoning.
