Three Wellington players heading stateside

Coach Alistaire Thompson says it's one of the biggest achievements in the school's sporting history.

"The spirit, the will to win and the will to excel - these are the things that will endure and these are the qualities that are so much more important than any of the events themselves," Mr Thompson said.

This quote told the story after the final whistle was blown at the end of the possible and probables game to gain selection into the NSW CPS Touch Football 2016 team.

"Josie Clarke, Ella James and Sophie Whiteman stood tall after a huge day playing for the Bathurst Diocese team and then having been named in the possible and probable team, and now the NSW CPS team," he said.

"All of the Wellington players performed very well with Josie Clarke, Ella James and Sophie Whiteman, making it into the possible and probables.

"That seemed to ignite the flame with all girls lifting another gear playing out of their skin and making it into the NSW Polding Team to play at Coffs Harbour in August.

"Words really cannot give justice to how proud I am of all these students, they have put in an amazing effort.

"Their hard work has really paid off and they deserve everything they have got. I am so proud of them all. It really shows there is no substitute for hard work."

St Mary's was well-represented with Jack Owens playing in the boys' team and Josie Clarke, Ella James, Claudia and Sophie Whiteman in the girls' side.

"Jack performed well for the boys' side, playing hard in his natural position in the middle and gaining a lot of experience playing at a very high level," Mr Thompson said.

"The girls' team had a very successful day defeating last year's winners Broken Bay in their opening match 3-1 and also defeating Lismore, Armidale/Tamworth and Wilcannia Forbes."
