After spending a busy day in the electorate on Monday, I'm back in Sydney at Parliament for the week and am looking forward to welcoming to this historic building a number of high school students from Dubbo, Gulgong, Narromine and Wellington who are participating in a student leadership program.

As many in the community will by now have heard and read, I welcomed the announcement by the federal Member for Parkes, Mark Coulton that a re-elected Liberal and National government in Canberra will, in conjunction with the NSW state government deliver a much needed Cancer Centre in Dubbo.
This is fantastic news and an important step in the progress of this project. I want to congratulate Mark Coulton, Dubbo West Rotary and the many communities of the Central West that have supported this push.

Many will recall that I congratulated Mr Ron Paxton of Geurie last week for his 50 years of service as a Justice of the Peace (JP).
The Attorney-General, the Hon Gabrielle Upton MP has asked me to invite Justices of the Peace from the Dubbo electorate to join her for morning tea at Parliament House in Sydney on Wednesday June 22 2016 to recognise their service and the contribution that JPs make to our community.
JPs interested in attending this event should contact my electorate office on (02) 6882 3577 or dubbo@parliament.nsw.gov.au

I want to echo the call made by the Minister for Ageing and Minister for Disability Services last week in seeking nominations for the 2016 NSW Carers Awards.
The NSW Carers Awards are an opportunity to recognise and celebrate the dedication, commitment and valuable contributions of the more than 850,000 unpaid carers across NSW.
We all know someone who every day provides vital unpaid support to members of our family and the community, improving and having a positive impact on their lives.
Show them you care about what they do by nominating them for an award.
This year, 10 awards are available for individuals and organisations to be honoured during Carers Week, which runs from Sunday October 16 to Saturday October 22 2016.
The 10 recipients will receive their award at a Carers Week ceremony at Parliament House, where the 2016 NSW Carer of the Year will be announced.
Nominations for the NSW Carers Awards 2016 close on Sunday July 10 at midnight, and can be made online at www.careforacarer.nsw.gov.au/carersawards or by contacting my electorate office (02) 6882 3577.

Congratulations to the Mudgee community for being recognised by the University of Wollongong (UOW) as its recipient of the 2016 UOW Community Fellowship Award.
The award recognises the contribution of Mudgee in its tireless efforts supporting to support UOW students studying medicine in the region.
In 2010, the Mudgee community initiated a project to build a house for medical students with a partnership between Mid-Western Regional Council, Club Mudgee, Moolarben Coal, Peabody Energy, Wilpinjong Coal and several community service organisations and locals contributing to the project.
The five bedroom house accommodates medical students during their 12-month clinical placement in Mudgee as part of the Mudgee4Doctors program which was established to train doctors committed to working in regional, rural and remote areas as a way of addressing the chronic shortage of doctors in these areas.
I'm proud of the Mudgee community for making this project such a success and congratulate them on being recognised by the UOW.
Until next week,
Troy
