The CWA of NSW has announced the Medical Research Funding Grant 2016-2017 will once again go towards Lyme Disease research and treatment.

The funding was announced at the CWA State Conference in Cowra on Thursday after delegates voted throughout the week.
Delegates were given the option of choosing between funding for Lyme Disease, Endometriosis and Sudden Adult Death Syndrome research.
Marie Huntley-Jackson from the Lyme Disease Association of Australia accepted the grant on behalf of the association and said she greatly appreciated the support.
“We are very grateful to have your support because research is fundamental to progress,” she said.
Research on the disease is undertaken at Murdoch University and Ms Huntley-Jackson says the grant would be focused on patients and independent, qualitative research.
“It’s not well understood,” she said.
“We work hard to make their voices heard.”
Ms Huntley-Jackson said there are more than 1200 submissions into the Senate Inquiry into Lyme Disease and that funding would also ensure more research into the impact of Lyme Disease on mental health and a proper diagnosis.
“We don’t know many people have the disease,” she said.
“We know at least 4000 people are being treated and there are lots more undiagnosed.”
