The beautiful follow up rain that fell last Wednesday gave a lot of the district a total of 20 to 26.5mm which will certainly help the later maturing crops and let us hope that it wasn’t too late for the Canola crops.

At Dubbo last Thursday 7,600 Prime cattle penned in a good quality yarding with not all the regular buyers operating. Trade cattle fell 8 to 13 cents, lightweight feeder steers lost 5 to 7 cents, however the heavier weights were firm, feeder heifers dropped up to 11 cents, heavy steers were 13 cents cheaper, heavy heifers fell 15 cents and cows were down 7 to 9 cents. Quotations - calves 155 to 210, steer vealers 153 to 215, heifer vealers 150 to 190, steer yearlings v140 to 214, heifer yearlings 125 to 188, heavy steers 126 to 209, bullocks 175 to 206, heavy heifers 124 to 185, light cows 100 to 150, medium cows 110 to 158, heavy cows 135 to 176 and bulls 121 to 225.
Dubbo on Friday 1600 Store cattle were penned with quality only fair except for a top consignment of Santa cows and heifers PTIC, the cow & calf market was also reasonably good, a stronger market eventuated except for cows & calves which were cheaper, weaner steers sold from $210 to $560 to avg $390 or 183 cents per kg, weaner heifers ranged from $190 to $530 to avg $315, steer yearlings traded from $340 to $595 to avg $492 or 171 cents per kg, heifer yearlings realised $320 to $635 to avg $411, PTIC heifers made from $670 to $760 to avg $736, PTIC cows sold from $640 to $700 to avg $670, cows & calves ranged from $650 to $1125 for a pen of top quality Angus, unjoined cows traded from $235 to $705 to avg $420.
At Dubbo on Monday 21,200 lambs penned in a mixed quality yarding, trade weight lambs were $3 dearer, lightweight lambs fell $3, heavy lambs rose $5, Merino lambs lost $3 to $6. Quotations - light young lamb $24 to $84, medium young lamb $76 to $103, heavy young lamb $96 to $110, supermarket young lamb $106 to $120, light export lamb $128, light weight lamb $59 to $72, medium lamb $64 to $96, heavy lamb $85 to $108, supermarket lamb $100 to $130 and export lamb $112 to $148. 9600 mutton penned in a mixed quality yarding with ewes losing $5 to $10, while wethers dropped $6 to $7. Quotations light ewes $12 to $56, medium ewes $45 to $88, heavy ewes $55 to $92, light wethers $47 to $55, medium wethers $56 to $81, heavy wethers $82 to $98, rams $23 to $75.
Schute Belle reports that last week’s wool market could not continue the upward trend of the last few weeks. It was the largest sale for eight months with 42,909 bales sold with a passed in rate of 11.73%. Most of the key indicators dropped back as buyers returned to their cautious buying habits. Better quality and well prepared lots were again well supported as these lots supply buyers with the greatest confidence with significant premiums being paid for these lines.
The Northern Region Indicator closed 1069 cents per kg clean a fall of 3 cents.
