He talked with the Country Women's Association about wool as up to 35mm of rain tumbled down on Saturday afternoon.

"The farming world has changed a lot. There are 25 different breeds of sheep and we supply just 3 per cent of the world's textiles," he explained.

Mr Brien says the high dollar and the cost of manufacturing has stymied farmers who had no control over fluctuating prices.

"When I started shearing it was five pounds per 100 sheep, now its $240 per 100 to get my sheep shorn," he said.

"It's so hard to compete now for Australian;farmers," explaining subsidies international;farmers get against nothing for Aussies added to high shearing labour costs.

Mr Brien also showcased the wonderful world of wool and fielded many questions from a very receptive crowd.
