"We have sent children immediately to the Wellington Aboriginal Corporation Health Service with problems here,'' he said.
"If children are detected there is a possibility their problem could be life-threatening.''
Mr Rutter says Australia has a fourth world ranking when it comes to hearing.
"It's an epidemic situation especially among Indigenous children and even non-Indigenous. Hearing loss, if not prevented early, will wreck your life,'' he said.
Mr Rutter believes The Hear Our Heart Ear Bus would have immediate results and he congratulated Wellington Public School principal Denis Anderson for getting involved in the project. The project, which is non-for-profit, will need funding to ensure it can stay in the Wellington local government area.
Wellington mayor Cr Rod Buhr also visited the Ear Bus project and said he was keen to do anything he could to help get it in Wellington.
