Investigations under way after man fatally shot in leg at Wellington

Investigations are under way after a man was fatally shot in NSW's Central West this morning.

Emergency services were called to a home on Gisborne Street, Wellington, following reports of a shots fired about 3.20am on Monday.

Officers from Orana Mid-Western Police District attended the scene and found a man, aged 68, inside the house with a gunshot wound to his leg.

Officers have been told the man was shot through the front door before the offenders fled on foot.

The man was treated on scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being transported to Orange Base Hospital where he later died.

A crime scene was established and forensically examined by specialist police.

Detectives from Orana Mid-Western Police District - with the assistance from State Crime Command's Homicide Squad - have established Strike Force Clavert to investigate the circumstances surrounding the man's death.
