Police are appealing for information after a woman was hit in the chest with a projectile in Wellington.

About 4.30pm on Sunday a 69-year-old woman was driving on Thornton Street at Wellington when a projectile flew through her window and hit her chest.

The woman drove to a nearby address and found her chest to be bruised as a result. Her family attended Thornton Street and located a pink object on the roadway.
Officers attached to Orana Mid-Western Police District attended and seized the projectile for forensic examination.
Police have begun inquiries and believe the projectile may have originated from a park on Simpson Street.
