Three young people have vandalised Wellington's Cameron Park in what mayor Ben Shields has described as an "utterly disgraceful" act.

Pink spray paint was used to write names and symbols across various locations of the park, like the cenotaph, trees, fountain and toilets on Wednesday night.
Mayor Ben Shields said he was enraged by the deeply offensive act of selfishness.
"I am absolutely appalled at the actions of these three young boys who think they have the right to damage the park that the whole community enjoys," Cr Shields said.

"The lack of respect that was shown on the side of the War Memorial is unspeakable. To think they have the audacity to spray their names on the cenotaph, a tribute that was installed to pay respect to those who have fought and died in war - is utterly disgraceful."
Council spent about $2000 to have the vandalism cleaned on Thursday morning.
"This is a blatant and unnecessary waste of rate payers' money, due to the selfishness of these three young boys," Cr Shields said.
Three young males were seen on the CCTV footage vandalising the park at about 7.30pm on Wednesday.
NSW Police Force were called to the scene on Thursday morning to investigate and collect evidence.
Police have been able to access footage from the recently installed CCTV which will hopefully assist investigators identify the offenders and their accomplices.
Council strongly encourages members of the public to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 if they witnessed any suspicious activity around the area on Wednesday evening, or if they have any additional information.
Cr Shields has reminded the community that Dubbo Regional Council offers a reward of up to $2500 for information leading to the conviction of any person who has committed wilful damage to, or theft of, council property.
"I am pleased that police have this footage and I'm confident it will assist them to identify who the culprits are. However, if anyone has more information that can lead to a conviction, I encourage them to come forward. I am happy to handout a reward if it helps bring these vandals to justice," Cr Shields said.
