About 6pm on Tuesday, March 24, it was reported to police that a 68-year-old man failed to return home after visiting an area known as "The Falls" at Macquarie River, Wellington.
Officers attached to Orana Mid-Western Police District along with State Emergency Service (SES) volunteers, conducted a search of the area and were unable to locate the man.
The search resumed the following day on Wednesday, March 25, with the assistance of Police Divers, the Dog Unit, Police Rescue and SES, however failed to locate the man.
About 9.15am on Thursday, March 26, the body of a 68-year-old man was recovered from the Maquarie River near Wellington.
A brief will be prepared for the information of the coroner.
