Desiree Stewart was working at Bendigo Racecourse on Tuesday morning when her blue Ford Ranger was stolen from the complex.
Inside the vehicle was her six-year-old dog Twiggy, who Miss Stewart describes as her "child".
The stolen Ford Ranger was last seen leaving the racecourse about 7.20am.
Miss Stewart has since received word that Twiggy had been seen in the Wellsford forest, behind the airport.
She has been out there searching for her little companion on Wednesday.
Miss Stewart has had Twiggy since the dog was eight weeks old, and says she is family.
"You can replace a car - you can't replace [Twiggy]," she said.
Anyone with information on Twiggy's whereabouts should call 0418 311 083.
Information on the stolen vehicle should be directed to police or Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000.
