After coming from behind, the Wedgetails defence proved too strong against the Bellbrook Dunghutti Connections to win 6-4.

Wellington Wedgetails vice president Adam Ryan said it was a real good game that went right to bell.

"Everyone was on the edge of their seat but our girls, I'll tell you what, it was their defence that won them the game," he explained.

"They just stepped up and really put the opposition on their backs when it counted."

Ryan said the side was "full of talent" and who can "score tries."

"They've got no dramas about putting tries on and they proved their defence is just as good the way their secured their lines," he explained.

"Hats off to all the girls that played, what they did was something special... they deserve all the accolades because it is hard work, big congratulations."

He added that Laticia Boney's defence and scoring trying was a standout on the day and was Maddy Shaw.

The 50th Koori Knockout will be held in the South Coast area in 2020 after the South Coast Black Cockatoos defeated Griffith Three Ways in the men's final.

Ryan said it would be a big thing for all communities, if the winning women's side got the chance to host a Koori Knockout.

"You've got to start being a bit inclusive too," he added.

"The women are bringing home the goods just as much as the men are, why not give them a chance (to host)."

The last time a Wellington Wedgetails side won a Knockout was in 1998, Ryan said, so it was great to see the teams getting stronger over the years and bringing home a title this year.
