A serious two car crash forced the closure of the Mitchell Highway in both directions at Bakers Swamp 30 kilometres south of Wellington for three hours on Sunday.

"The Mitchell Highway has reopened in both directions at Bakers Swamp following a serious two car crash," a Transport Management Centre spokesperson said.
"All diversions have been lifted," they said.
"All emergency services and traffic crews have left the scene of the crash.
"A reduced speed limit of 60 km/h is in place through the area so motorists are advised to exercise caution."
