Wellington's Herb Smith, the owner and creator of 'Dreamtime Tuka' has expanded and extended his contract with NSW TrainLink where he will be offering savoury products.

The six-month contract will allow travellers to purchase two different pies, plus sausage rolls and a vegetable pastie.

The five savoury products were launched on September 14 and includes two of Dreamtime Tuka's sweet items.

Mr Smith said the success of the sweet items, which were launched last year on the trains, allowed for the expansion into the savoury foods.

"They wanted to expand and put more products on and we indicated to them that we would bring out a savoury range. We sent them down samples, they trialled them and proved quite successful," he explained.

While it all comes down to how the products are received by travellers if they prove popular, the Wiradjuri man is hopeful the contract could be extended and more items become available.

"It could be the door that opens up for us for a large scale engagement," Mr Smith said.

The company began almost five years ago and has grown to be nationally recognised.

Dreamtime Tuka made Qantas history as the first stand-alone Aboriginal company to be promoted on their flights. Qantas began serving lemon myrtle slice on their regional and national flights in March 2016. Later that year they offered Mr Smith's crumble slice.

"It's a wonderful feeling to know that the initial idea has now been driven to that point, of having that credibility as a supplier and (we're) starting to engage with some very big clients," Mr Smith said.

"I think within the next 12 months the company will expand even further in terms of who we're dealing with and our product lines."

Dreamtime Tuka is based in Wellington and Mr Smith said there is the perception that it is a small business.

"We've worked really hard in the last 12 months... that work is paying off and we're really starting to open doors," he added. "I'm very proud. It's always nice to see your idea, you vision come to fruition. And I think the opportunities we have for the future are just great."

His advice to other business owners was to maintain their passion, keep motivated and work hard.

"They're the key ingredients to success," Mr Smith said.
