A HOME has been left with significant structural damage following an early morning house fire.

Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) crews were called to a property on Maxwell Street in Wellington at 6.08am on Monday following report of a fire.

FRNSW Wellington crews reported a large plume of dark smoke from the property upon their arrival.

"The back left-hand corner was fully involved in fire, it was though the ceiling," FRNSW Dubbo Station Officer Simon Bracht said.

"There's fairly significant fire and structural damage and we had a partial [roof] collapse.

"A lot of the roof was damaged."

Station Officer Bracht said the fire appeared to have started in a bedroom located in the back left-hand corner of the property.

"The house was boarded up upon arrival and we don't believe anyone has been living there for a while," he said.

"We're treating the fire as suspicious and the Wellington captain is liaising with police at this time."

Station Officer said even though the house was unoccupied there were a number of possessions inside the property.

If you have any information about this fire call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
