While Wellington did try the Bathurst Bulldogs third grade and Narromine Gorilla's second grade team's their prior commitments meant the local club hosted an in-house trial game against some of the Old Boys players.
Redbacks coach Greg Brien said if they didn't play it would have meant a month without a game, which wasn't ideal so close to finals starting.
Their last game was in round nine against the Geurie Goats with the final score 22-all, with Brien describing it as a "hard game of bush footy."
But the Old Boys game was not only a chance to have a run on the field but an opportunity to work on combinations.
"Some of those older fulla's they're still very skilful. They could still be playing if they wanted to, but that recovery time for them is a lot longer for what it is for the younger guys," he said.
The club's sponsors were also recognised that day with various gift packs handed out. Greig said it was a great way to say thanks for all of their support.
"It's nice to give something back to the sponsors, without sponsors we don't get on the paddock, we don't get the jerseys to run around in and whatever else... without sponsors the club doesn't function," he said.
This weekend the Redbacks will take on Yeoval Eagles in an away game for round 13.
Greig said game preparations remain the same for the Redbacks as they continue to trust their defence, despite the Eagles out of semi-finals contention.
The Redbacks coach was looking forward to getting out to Yeoval for the game and fine tune themselves before finals.
"Just make sure we do things right when we play Yeoval because after that the games get progressively harder with the last round against Coolah and then the semi's," he said.
"We're not going to take Yeoval lightly. All those fulla's out that way seem to come out of the wood work in these local clashes. They will be keen to perform well in front of their sponsors and home crowd."
The Redbacks will be taking a ladies supporters bus to the Yeoval game and tickets were still available for those wanting to attend.Tickets are $25.
Wellington will host their own ladies day at home against the Coolah Roos on July 20.
Redbacks will take second stage that day and play earlier at 2pm and the Wellington ladies rugby side will take to the field in the main game time of 3:15pm.
