After DRC announced on May 17 that residents could vote on which design they preferred, The Wellington Times launched a survey to find out what locals thought and received 39 responses.
The WT asked if the playground's location to the rotunda and Visitors Information Centre was important.
Susan Cosier said it was important, as it's convenient to have everything together, while Sandra Frappell said "Not really. As long as we have a playground."
Of the responses, 61.5 per cent preferred the Moduplay design and 94.9 per cent wanted a toilet block at the new playground. The survey also asked if there was anything residents would have liked included.
"A fence surrounding the playground as it will be near to the river and the highway," Monique Taylor said.
Kelly-ann Younie said "No, I think they are both great." and Doug Goninan said he was happy to see the playground designed with more inclusive areas for the disabled.
All respondents said they would use the new playground. The WT put forward a number of questions to DRC, including when would the playground likely be completed.
A DRC spokesperson said at the conclusion of the online voting period on May 31, the design with the most votes will be the selected design to progress through to be submitted for a Development Application.
"Following this process staff will co-operatively work with the manufacturer to plan a work schedule. The project has an anticipated completion date of December 2019," the spokesperson said.
The WT also asked how far away would the playground be from the Visitors Information Centre and the rotunda and if there would be toilet blocks.

"The footprint for the playground is key element 5 on the attached Master Plan of Cameron Park that was adopted in 2017. Key element 6 is the Visitor Information Centre," the spokesperson said.
"The footprint for the playground is key element 5 on the attached Master Plan of Cameron Park that was adopted in 2017. Please refer to key element 4 for proximity of rotunda."
The DRC referred the WT to the key element of the Master Plan for the proximity of the amenity block.
The playground's total estimated budget is $473,343.00 ex GST, with funding secured through Stronger Communities Major Project Fund and Everyone Can Play in NSW Fund.
