A 17-YEAR-OLD female has been allegedly beaten with a pole and bitten by a 21-year-old man in Wellington during a serious domestic violence incident.

Officers attached to the Orana Mid Western Police District say the incident occurred on Friday.
"Police will allege that the 21-old-man hit the 17-year-old about her body with a pole, then commenced to bite her," officers said.
"The dispute got so violent that the 17-year-old female escaped by jumping a fence and running away.
"The matter was reported to police shortly after."

The following day, officers commenced a search of a house in William Street and found the 21-year-old Wellington man hiding in a cupboard.
"He was arrested and charged at Wellington Police Station with several offences including, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and possessing a prohibited weapon," officers said.
"He was also served with an apprehended violence order, and was refused bail."
Officers have since taken to social media to highlight their dedication to assisting in domestic violence matters.
"NSW Police are dedicated to intervening in domestic violence, taking positive and effective action, holding perpetrators to account and putting them before a court," police said.
